چکیده
Non-random mating plays a key role in speciation and impacts the individual life history. Body size is known to be one of most important traits on which mate choice based. Various patterns body preference are fish, but they have been studied limited number species. Although climbing perch (Anabas testudineus) widespread well known, few reports its spawning published. Moreover, breeding has only described captivity cases it artificially induced with hormonal agents. This paper describes main features natural aquarium compared spawning. A positive size-assortative revealed. The system Anabas shown flexible, presumably ranging from monogamy polygamy. results discussed context general issue adequacy fish behaviour research methods.

Oxygen uptake in relation to group size in the juveniles of a climbing perch, Anabas testudineus (Bloch).
The present work reports oxygen uptake in relation to group size in the juveniles (body weight: 0.70 to 1.30 g) of a climbing perch, Anabas testudineus (Bloch). The experiments were conducted at 21.5 +/- 1.0 degrees C using a cylindrical glass respirometer having continuous water flow system. With an increase in the number of fish at an interval of 5 from 5 to 40 in each fourth subsequent exper...

Handling of ferric iron by branchial and intestinal epithelia of climbing perch (Anabas testudineus Bloch).
With a view to test how the branchial and intestinal tissues of fish, the two sites of metal acquisition, utilize the water-borne ferric [Fe(III)] iron and whether the accumulation of this form of iron influences cellular Na/K gradient in these tissues, the gills and intestines of climbing perch adapted to freshwater (FW) and acclimated to dilute seawater (20 ppt; SW) were analyzed for ouabain-...
متن کاملRemarkably low genetic variation but high population differentiation in the climbing perch, Anabas testudineus (Anabantidae), based on the mtDNA control region.
Anabas testudineus (Anabantidae) is an important food fish in Southeast Asia. We analyzed the mitochondrial DNA control region sequence data to evaluate the genetic variability and population structure of this species. Sixty specimens were collected from four populations in Sumatra and two populations in Peninsular Malaysia. We found a very low level of genetic variability, with five of the six...
